I’m slowly trying to return to this newsletter after some much-needed time off. Before we get back to our regular content, here’s a look at what’s been going on with me:
What I’ve been up to
If you follow me elsewhere on the internet, you know my dad died in March, shortly after I announced this newsletter’s hiatus. He’d entered hospice earlier in the year after a years-long battle with cancer. I have experienced a lot of death in my life, but watching someone deteriorate through hospice was unfamiliar territory for me. I haven’t taken a ton of time off, but not having to write this newsletter did help take one small thing off my plate. I’m grateful for that.
In true chaotic fashion, I saw my friend fostering a dog about a month ago and decided I wanted said dog. This past year has been full of a LOT of change for me: saying goodbye to Eleanor, my dog, and then my dad. Moving to a new home. Adopting a new dog. It’s been a lot of adjusting.
Stella-Bella Marie is a pittie mix who was found wondering on Fulton Industrial late last year. We suspect she’s had a few litters. Because of limited resources at her shelter, she was set to be euthanized in April. My friend was fostering her to prevent that. Not only is Stella the prettiest dog in the whole world, she’s also the most playful. She’s brought an energy into our home that is so lighthearted and youthful. We are tired – getting her adjusted to a new home and into training has zapped a lot of our energy – but happy.
How I’ve been coping
I found this coloring book and can’t put it down. It was created by a Black woman and tells the story of a Black girl going to the beauty supply store. It’s SO CUTE.
The creators of the mobile game Good Pizza, Great Pizza just dropped Good Coffee, Great Coffee and I.AM.OBSESSED. Being a faux barista is stressful, but fun. (I must admit I didn’t really know what a latte was before playing this game. I’d literally never heard of an affogato in my life. I don’t drink coffee!! But, I am eager to learn.)
About work
I’m wrapping up the professional project that has consumed my time and brain within the next month, so I’m back on the job hunt! If you know of any permalance gigs that might interest me as an editor, reporter, podcast host and/or producer, please keep me in mind!
